Seventeen (세븐틴) - 박수(Clap)

Seventeen has been teasing this comeback for what seems like an eternity. Finally, on November 6th, they released their second full length album Teen,Age. The title track of this album is “Clap.” The song is a classic Seventeen track, meaning upbeat, pleasing to the ears, and catchy as hell. It is backed by a truly awesome electric guitar, which gives it this great pop-rock vibe.

“Clap” is an homage to those days when nothing goes your way. It's only when you realize you have no control that you just throw your hands up and find comfort in knowing you’re not the only one in these situations. The slightly demanding chorus (don’t tell me what to do!), invades your brain but it’s okay, just give in. Resistance to Seventeen is futile. They’re coming for all of us.

The Rose (더 로즈) – Like We Used To (좋았는데)

The Rose is one of my favorite debuts of 2017. In August, they released their debut single, "Sorry" and the almost other worldly vocals blew me away. Since then, I've been waiting for another single from the group and it's finally here – "Like We Used To." The Rose is one of the few K-pop bands you might have heard of thanks to some music show appearances. But they definitely deserve more recognition.

This latest single is pure pop-rock, a nice break from the K-pop we're used to. The soft, ethereal vocals convey the sadness of the lyrics, which describe the sadness looking back on happier memories you'd rather forget. The band instrumentals mixed with the vocals give us a sense of yearning that you hear in the lyrics. The music video itself focuses solely on the group. The soft, muted colors perfectly match the song.

I loved the song. Now all I need is an album. Please and thanks!

Monsta X - Dramarama

Well, to start, this MV certainly lives up to its name. It is packed with time travel, chase scenes and mysterious men-in-black, sandwich in-between scenes of the boys dancing in a tunnel. The boys hustle around this alternate universe, saving each others’ lives and fighting off the baddies. It is a 180 minute sci-fi action movie packed into four minutes.

“Dramarama” is Monsta X’s lead single off their latest EP, The Code. The song is interestingly composed, with lots of layers, both vocally and instrumentally. Listeners can distinctly hear a plucky electric guitar throughout the entire song, adding a funk element to what would otherwise be a fairly straightforward electro-pop song. My absolute favorite part is when Jooheon and I.M. trade rap lines back and forth in a rapid fire battle, mirrored in their choreography as well.

Monsta X’s delivery of this song is high energy, fun and dramatic, which is the point, right? I hope to see them get their first win on an award show with this song.

VICTON(빅톤) – Remember Me(나를 기억해)

VICTON is celebrating their first anniversary with their fourth mini album, From. VICTON. The album is essentially one long letter to their fandom (called Alice).

The title track off the album, "Remember Me," Is VICTON showing fans how much they appreciate their love. In the song, VICTON says that that even though they feel as if they haven't give fans much, they'll keep trying so they'll be remembered.

The song was produced by one of my favorite production teams – Good Life, which includes composer, Kim Tae Joo and Highlight’s Yong Junhyung. To add to the collaborations on this song, the music video features Hayoung from Apink, VICTON's label mate. While the song's tropical beat is well overplayed at this point, it is still is a fun gift from a talented rookie group to their fans.

BewhY – Day Day (feat. Jay Park)

Last night, Kerry and I were lucky enough to check out BewhY's concert in Washington, DC. This was the second-to-last stops on BewhY's first U.S. tour – "The Blind Star."

Julie wrote a fantastically in-depth review of BewhY's first full-length album, The Blind Star (which I highly recommend you check out here.)

To prepare myself for the concert, I've had the album on repeat. But, aside from those songs, one song I was hoping to hear was "Day Day." (And yes, he did perform it!)

"Day Day" was BewhY's semi-final song that he performed with Jay Park on the fifth season of "Show Me The Money." It's no wonder he won the semi-final and, ultimately, the final. The song shows off BewhY's precision rap flow layered with a funky back track and featuring Jay Park's R&B vocals.
